Research the Chinese diaspora through access to international collections which cover Mainland China, Southeast Asia, North America, and the Caribbean. My China Roots also includes genealogy clan books, immigration case file indexes, Chinese association membership records, Chinese business directories, overseas Chinese cemetery records, guides to get started, and more. Includes over 150 million searchable individuals and over 14 million images. You can search for records in English and Chinese across all collections. 

The Thomas Crane Public Library will be adding My China Roots, a genealogy resource from the Boston Public Library, to our list of Local History & Genealogy databases, which can be found on our website here. The My China Roots database REQUIRES a Boston Public Library card or ecard. On Wednesday, May 1 from 12 - 1 PM there will be a "My China Roots" virtual webinar in which Clotilde Yap will provide a brief introduction to Chinese family history research, including how to get started, key challenges, and what clues to look for both at home and online. Finally, Clotilde will provide a live demo of the My China Roots database, including how to find your Chinese surname, how to find your ancestral village in China, and how to find your Chinese family tree book (jiapu).

Clotilde Yap has assisted families from around the world in tracing their Chinese family history since joining My China Roots in 2017. As the Head of Global Collections for MCR, she researches untapped archives of Chinese communities across the globe, partnering with libraries, museums and community organizations to preserve their collections for posterity.
